Day 6 – 11/30
It seems like the more chocolate I eat, the more I crave. Back in September/October, I never craved or ate chocolate really–my standard day was pumpkin steel cut oats for breakfast, red potatoes and hummus for lunch, and some kind of bean curry/chili for dinner! That was it, I didn’t want or need snacks or treats or anything. I miss the simplicity.
The difference between that and a day like today is a bit bewildering. Today I ate over a pound of potatoes for lunch (much more than I ate for a meal in September/October) and was totally stuffed but still craved chocolate/treats afterwards, it’s bizarre.
Lately I’ve had a sneaking suspicion that my fluctuations in cravings and appetite over the course of weeks/months have to do with gut bacteria. Today I did a lot more research on it, and as a result am a lot more convinced in this hypothesis–because as a PhD student, I naturally have to throw science at all my problems. I’m going to try taking a probiotic and report back. (Because we can’t come to any conclusions without a good ol’ fashioned experiment of some kind!)
