Day 27 (12/21) of Back to High Carb Intuitive Eating

After 2 great days, I had a not-so-good day in the eating department. Things started off well enough, since I went for acai bowls with a friend… although I ate my entire bowl and the rest of hers that she couldn’t finish because I can’t stand to waste food! (Which isn’t too bad since it’s fruit, but still, it was more than I needed.)

Then we were shopping at Whole Foods a few hours later, and she got a sandwich because she was hungry (to be expected after having only half an acai bowl) and I made the mistake of following suit and getting their vegan burrito. They piled on soyrizo that looked as if it were dripping with oil, and I was too hesitant to say anything in time to prevent my burrito from turning into a grease-fest. I managed to scoop a lot of it out, but still, my stomach was pretty upset just an hour afterwards.

Then the finale: I went out to dinner for my mom’s birthday at a cuban place, whose vegetarian/vegan option was a sampler-style plate with rice, beans, veggies, tostones, fried plantains, and yuca fries. I focused on the rice/beans/veggies first, but still ended up eating a lot of the fried items. And then felt very sick.

Even eating out more than once a week is too much for me–3 times in one day is just insanity! My friends have been suggesting more restaurant dates, but I’m going to be asking if we can do coffee instead, because I still haven’t gotten back my hunger/fullness signals when it comes to hyperpalatable, oil-laden foods… I just eat myself sick.

   
Exercise: walked 6 miles

Breakfast:

  • Acai bowl in a pineapple
  • Half a mexican mocha

Lunch:

  • Whole Foods burrito with black beans, cilantro rice, potatoes, avocado, and soyrizo

Dinner:

  • Cuban plate: black beans, brown rice, roasted veggies, yuca fries, tostones, and sweet fried plantains

Day 26 (12/20) of Back to High Carb Intuitive Eating

Another very clean eating day! It was also nice to be able to relax for some of the day after so much craziness lately: yesterday I had a photoshoot from 9am-1pm, then appointments, then had friends over at night, whereas today I took Maia to dog training, went for a run, and got some reading done!

 Exercise: ran 2 miles, walked 3 miles

Breakfast:

  • Potato veggie hash
  • Coldbrew coffee with soymilk

Lunch:

  • Big kale salad with red potatoes, white beans, avocado, etc.
  • 3 dates

Dinner:

  • 4 small red potatoes
  • 1 head of romaine with carrot
  • Bit of leftover baked banana oatmeal

Night snack:

  • Pear
  • Chocolate chips

Day 25 (12/19) of Back to High Carb Intuitive Eating

Had a perfectly clean, very low fat day! It was a nice little oasis among all the restaurant food–my stomach has not been too pleased with me on restaurant days.

I played boardgames with friends at night, and while they had chocolate caramels as snacks, I made chocolate nicecream!

 Exercise: walked 4 miles

Breakfast:

  • Baked banana chocolate oatmeal
  • Coldbrew coffee with soymilk

Lunch:

  • Potato veggie hash

Snack:

  • 3 slices bread with pumpkin butter
  • Red potato with hummus

Dinner:

  • Kale salad
  • Chocolate nicecream

Day 24 (12/18) of Back to High Carb Intuitive Eating

Today was a very strange day food wise: I was still hungry after my usual breakfast, and instead of having one lunch, I snacked from 12-4, including half a Cinnaholic cinnamon roll I split with a friend! (If you followed my higher carb starch solution challenge, you might remember that Cinnaholic is my ultimate weakness)

I went out to dinner at BJ’s and was pleasantly surprised to find that they had a vegan item on the menu: their lentil soup in a sourdough bread bowl was delicious. The dinner was with my former boyfriend of 6 years and it was my first time seeing him since we broke up, so I had a few too many feelings at night and ate them in the form of some almond butter and chocolate chips. 😦

 Exercise: walked 6 miles

Breakfast:

  • Veggie hash with red potatoes, broccoli, mushrooms, onion, red peppers, and artichoke hearts
  • Banana cocoa shake
  • Coldbrew coffee with soymilk

Lunch (aka snacks from 12-4pm):

  • 2 slices of bread with pumpkin butter
  • Mango chunks
  • Bean taquito
  • 1/2 Cinnaholic cinnamon roll
  • Peppermint tea

Dinner:

  • Lentil soup in a sourdough bread bowl
  • Almond butter and chocolate chips

Day 23 (12/17) of Back to High Carb Intuitive Eating

Because I’ve been going out with friends non stop lately, it was nice to have a more peaceful day of going to dog training with my parents, shopping for veggies at Costco, and going for a run. And I added a lot more components to the salad I’ve been eating a lot of recently!

 Exercise: ran 2.25 miles and walked 4 miles

Breakfast:

  • Homemade bread with pumpkin butter
  • Coldbrew coffee with soymilk

Lunch:

  • Potato hash with broccoli and mushrooms
  • Leftover fried rice
  • Costco samples: coconut chips, bread, date

Dinner:

  • Enormous kale salad with red potatoes, white beans, red onion, avocado, tomatoes, and balsamic vinegar

Day 22 (12/16) of Back to High Carb Intuitive Eating

Today was a bit of a debacle: I was supposed to pick up my friend from the airport at 1:30, then we were going to chat over coldbrew and my homemade bread. But thanks to a storm and San Diego being unable to handle weather, the airport blocked all flights–I went to the airport on time only to discover her flight was landing in Ontario instead!

I had been planning on working and jogging in the afternoon, but instead it became a game of waiting for flight info and almost rushing out the door a few times. I headed back to the airport again at 5 when her flight was finally landing, but it took til 7 to get a gate and luggage. I’ve learned my lesson about heading to the airport prematurely! At least I got to be the one driving and not the one delayed… She was stuck on a plane with her (rather upset) dog for hours. What a nightmare!

After all that, we needed some junk food. And Sipz is one of our favorite haunts (and my favorite restaurant of all time), so naturally we went there and got vegan drumsticks and fried rice.  😀

  • Coldbrew coffee with soymilk

Lunch:

  • 2 small-medium red potatoes with hummus
  • 3 big slices homemade bread with pumpkin butter
  • Rose french vanilla tea

Day 21 (12/15) of Back to High Carb Intuitive Eating

All my raw garlic and extra food (or just my immune system) paid off: I didn’t wake up sick! Ever since I’ve been vegan I’ve gotten sick less than half as much as I used to, it’s amazing. And on those rare occasions when I do feel something coming on like yesterday, it almost always goes away.

Because I managed to avoid sickness, my road trip to San Diego went through! I’ve always struggled to keep enough good, easy to eat carbs on hand during road trips–especially since I get way hungrier than you’d expect given I’m technically spending the day sitting for 8-10 hours. I usually end up eating multiple clif bars and feeling a bit sick from all the added sugar. But this time, I got smart and picked up 2 sourdough bread bowls from Panera to get me through the drive!

Exercise: walked 3 miles

Breakfast:

  • Sweet potato banana pudding
  • Coldbrew coffee with soymilk

Lunch:

  • Sourdough bread bowl

Dinner:

  • Sourdough bread bowl with an apple

Snack:

  • Mango
  • 2 slices of bread with cherry jam
